Mamut takes over MYOB UK - good news for UK osCommerce store owners?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

We have just received a notification from MYOB UK (which UK Development programme DataLink UK Ltd is a member of since 2007) about Mamut ASA taking over the UK branch of MYOB.

Mamut’s products are in many ways better than such of MYOB, and it sounds like UK customers of MYOB, and, in particular, those who have an online store based on osCommerce AND use MYOB products will benefit a LOT from MYOB becoming part of Mamut.

Fortunately enough DataLink UK Ltd has solutions that integrate osCommerce (and other Ecommerce solutions like ZenCart, CRE Loaded, CubeCart, X-Cart, Virtue Mart) with Mamut and MYOB (and also Sage, QuickBooks and NetSuite).

We will keep you posted as more details about this deal between Mamut and MYOB arrive.Phentermine for sale

osCommerce Google Checkout beats Authorize.net

Friday, January 4th, 2008

A customer of ours from USA has recently introduced Google Checkout on his online store.

Before that Authorize.net was #1 for credit card transactions, and he also used PayPal as a secondary payment method available to customers.

But now, Google Checkout is definitely THE winner, and most customers who choose to pay using their credit cards choose Google Checkout but not Authorize.net

Most probably it has much to do with the trust built by Google to its very brand, and its payment method too. And of course if you pay via Google Checkout - the store owner doesn’t get to know your card details.

We will keep an eye on how different payment methods evolve and will keep informing you of our findings.

osCommerce and NetSuite integration

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Just about to start two custom osCommerce-based projects where besides a plenty of other interesting features we will be integrating osCommerce and NetSuite. Actually those two projects have already been in progress since long long ago, but its only this fall when the two completely different customers decided to switch to NetSuite. One company used to have Sage Line 50 and another company used to have QuickBooks. Apparently the business goes well for those two customers of ours, and they have outgrown both Sage Line 50 and QuickBooks and now require an Enterprise level Business Management software.

In the matter of fact NetSuite is supposed to have its own Ecommerce solution, but it looks like osCommerce is much more featured and flexible and is, once again, choice #1 for our customers.

According to our estimate it’s going to take us several weeks to reach the Beta version status, but its not the time but quality and flexibility that matter. We will keep you posted on our progress. Our team is looking forward to completing these challenging projects and adding osCommerce to NetSuite integration service into our portfolio!

Holbi and ICEcat together in free catalogue for OScommerce users

Holbi and ICEcat together in free catalogue for OScommerce users

Utrecht, NL/Reading, UK, June 6, 2007: Holbi – a leading osCommerce service provider in Europe (mainly UK and Germany) – and ICEcat have joined forces to integrate (free) product content in osCommerce shops. Holbi and ICEcat co-operate in a number of IT channel projects in the UK & Ireland, and are expanding their co-operation to Germany and other European countries. As part of the co-operation Holbi will create plug-ins or contributions for osCommerce, under the GNU open source license, to make it easy for osCommerce users on its platform to integrate (free) open product content.

Open ICEcat is used by around 1500 EMEA resellers, of which approximately 20% make use of osCommerce or siblings like Zencart and xtcommerce. The co-operation with Holbi responds to a growing number of requests from the osCommerce community -with more than 130 000 “members” the single most used webshop platform in the world- to provide easy tools for integrating ICEcat’s open catalogues, which include the leading technology brands like Philips, Sony, Samsung, IBM and HP.

Especially in the IT channel there is a new wave of (B2B) resellers starting with ecommerce. But also in Telecom, Office and Consumer Electronics the channel is digitizing at a fast pace. As margins for online resellers are under constant pressure, there is a huge demand for high-quality product content, without the need for manual data-entry, and against minimal costs. ICEcat can make this happen as currently around 100 mainstream technology manufacturers are sponsoring ICEcat to provide their product content even for free to their channel, as manufacturers want to improve their online “shelf position” now that internet has become the no 1 buyer orientation medium. Every week a new manufacturer joins Open ICEcat (the free product catalogue). In co-operation with Holbi, not only free Open ICEcat, but the full ICEcat database with more than 170 000 datasheets from more than 1200 brands will be disclosed to osCommerce users.

The complete list of Open ICEcat sponsors currently include: 3Com, Ability, Acer, Adobe, AFTC, Allied Data, Allied Telesyn, AMD, Antec, AVM, Avocent, Axis, Belinea, Belkin, Blue Ears, Brother, CA, Canon, Canyon, Case Logic, Club3D, Collax, Conceptronic, D-link, Davilex, Dicota, Dutch Design Trading, E-tech, Easy Disc, Eizo, Epson, Ergotron, ErgoXS, Freecom, Fuji Film, Haier, Hiper, HotBrick, HP, IBM, IDcontrol, Iiyama, Imation, Iomega, Iris, Kaspersky, Kensington, Kingston, KISS, Kodak, Lacie, Lenovo, Lexmark, LG, Linksys, Lite-On, Logitech, Macally, Magix, Map&Travel, McAfee, Medion, MGE, NEC, Netgear, NewStar, NewUniverse, No-Entry, Novell, Nuance, Philips, Phoenix, Pinnacle, PNX, Prestigio, Projecta, Route66, Saitek, Samsung, Seiko Instruments, Sitecom, SMC, Sony, Surfplan, Sweex, Symantec, Targus, DeTelefoongids, Thecus, Toshiba, Trend Micro, US Robotics, ViewSonic, XFX, XXODD, Yusmart, and ZyXEL.

Switch to osCommerce

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Having had a plenty of customers recently switching from other Ecommerce solutions to osCommerce, or willing to switch from other versions of osCommerce to our TrueLoaded, we decided to publish some details of this mysterious (as referred by a customer) process to make it easier for our customers to understand what exactly is going with their online shop.

There may be many reasons why an online store owner would like to change Ecommerce platform and start using osCommerce. Most of the customers report the lack of features and not enough flexibility with their current solutions, others complain about not being able to support their sites, when with osCommerce you get support of the whole development community. And even though “plain” osCommerce is perhaps not the best solution for online retail business - it is the relatively big retailers who contact us to have their businesses backed by osCommerce solutions. As osCommerce can be enhanced with the features suitable for business management that not many other Ecommerce solutions have.

As it was easy to guess the switch usually consists of several steps. The main goal behind this process is to make it as smooth and seamless for online trading as possible.

And the first step is to ensure the Hosting Platform for the new web site is suitable to host osCommerce.

The second step would be to copy design of the existing web site and integrate it into osCommerce as close to the original as possible. Sometimes customers ask to improve design though.

The third step is to copy the database, products and images, customer accounts, orders and all current configurations and settings (taxes, currencies, design settings, everything…). Ideally end customers should be able to log into their accounts and check previously placed orders in the new osCommerce web site, same as they would do that in the old web site.

The fourth step is about copying payment and shipping methods, and all other specific features implemented in the current site.

Finally after all tests are passed the new web site can be launched. It all may sound a little bit too simple, but each project like that requires a lot of attention to details and concentration as customer’s online business should only benefit from the switch to osCommerce!

PayPal PRO, Verisign, and PayPal Express Checkout - and osCommerce

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Not so long ago PayPal bought Verisign, and this has positively improved the way how PayPal accepts payments.

PayPal has come up with a new implementation of PayPal PRO payment method, which is now based on what used to be called Verisign PayFlow PRO.

Also, PayPal Express Checkout feature comes as a part of PayPal PRO, making it possible to easily sign up and place an order on almost any web site that has it integrated by just logging into your PayPal account.

This new approach in PayPal PRO has been implemented in the UK, but there are rumours it will be spread over to other countries as well.

There are several shopping cart solutions that have support for new PayPal PRO, and interestingly enough osCommerce is among them!

What has happened is even more intriguing - PayPal has created their own modules for osCommerce! This proves PayPal considers osCommerce as one of the leading Ecommerce solutions for SME, worth investing development time into.
